Problems with the game server connection
The route of data packets from the device to the server
Vikings: War of Clans is a multiplayer online game that requires an internet connection. So that all players can see the results of each other's actions, the application is constantly exchanging information with the servers, i.e. it sends and receives packets of data.
Let's consider how one of those packets travels. A packet appears every time you perform an action in the Viking world.
1. First, your device sends a command. (The data packet puts on its cloak, grabs its staff, and gets ready to head out on its adventures.)
2. Then the packet makes its way onto the internet and sets out towards the server. How much time it takes for the packet to reach its goal depends on the quality of your internet provider's services.
3. Finally, the data packet arrives at a distant castle called "Server," which immediately sets about unpacking the data.
4. After that, the server sends out the data that results from the processing of the packet to you and other players.
Problems on the way
During its travels, the packet may encounter various dangers.
- Problems with your internet access (for example, an overloaded internet channel)
- Problems on your provider's side
- Problems on the server provider's side
- Server maintenance or problems due to a heavy load on the server
It's worth mentioning that the speed of the connection and its stability are different things. Your internet connection might be very fast, but also unstable. Even minor interruptions to the connection can cause the data packet to get lost (poor thing!). After that, the game creates a new packet that must start its journey all over again.
How you can avoid data transfer problems
Personal computer
- If possible, use a wired connection. It is easier for your data packet to travel down a straight road through a cable, rather than taking a winding path via Wi-Fi.
- If you cannot connect a cable, move closer to your router: this way the Wi-Fi signal won't get weaker because of different obstacles (walls, furniture, and other objects).
Mobile devices
If you have the choice of whether to use Wi-Fi or mobile internet, use the former. Your router is much closer to you than a cell phone tower, and, consequently, it can provide you with a connection of a higher quality.
Personal computer and mobile devices
Before you start playing, try closing all active programs that can use the internet. If your connection speed is slow, your device will periodically cut off internet access for different programs (including Vikings: War of Clans). Of course, if your connection speed is high, you won't have these issues.
Problems with entering the game
If you cannot enter the game (for example, you encounter such errors as "Connection lost" or "Internal error"), try doing the following.
Mobile application
1. Check that your device meets the technical requirements (a minimum of 1 GB of free RAM for Android and 500 MB for iOS). If you have less RAM than this, your device won't be able to support stable app functionality. In this case, try playing on your personal computer (read about how to synchronize your account and launch Vikings: War of Clans on another device here).
2. Clear the application's cache (this can only be done on an Android device). Go to the settings and select "Apps & notifications." In the list that appears, select "Applications" and go to Vikings: War of Clans. On the screen that shows app information, tap "Storage" and then tap "Clear cache."
3. If you use mobile internet, switch to a Wi-Fi connection. If this isn't possible, set a mode that is normally available in your region (3G/4G/5G) in your mobile connection settings.
4. Try using another device (to exclude the possibility of a problem on your current device).
5. Try connecting to another internet provider (to exclude the possibility of a problem with your current Wi-Fi or mobile provider).
6. Try reinstalling the application. In some cases, this is the only way to remove redundant game data that takes up too much of the RAM and cache. After you reinstall the application, it will start functioning more smoothly and the errors will occur less frequently.
Web platforms (Facebook and plarium.com)
1. Check that your device meets the minimum technical requirements:
- Current versions of your browser and JavaScript installed
- OS: Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 x64
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz, AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.66 GHz, or any other processor with a similar performance level
- Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD2xxx, GeForce 8600, or similar models that support DirectX 10
- RAM: 4 GB
- Available disk space: 10 GB or more
A computer that meets the minimum system requirements for Vikings: War of Clans will allow you to launch the game with low graphics settings.
2. Clear your browser's cache. To do so, go to "Settings" ("Parameters") in your browser menu. In the "Privacy and security" ("Personal data") section, select "Clear history" ("Clear browsing data").
You can also type the name of the menu subsection you need into the setting search bar in the upper part of the screen. Select the data that should be deleted and the time period and hit "Delete data."
3. Some data for Vikings: War of Clans might be outdated or contain an error. To clear outdated and/or incorrect game files from your browser, you need to do the following:
In Google Chrome and Opera
- Go to the "Settings" in your browser menu.
- Open the "Privacy and security" section and select "Cookies and (other) site data."
- Select "See all cookies and site data."
- In the search field in the upper part of the screen, enter "krcdn".
- Click on "Remove all shown cookie files."
In Firefox
- Go to the "Options" in your browser menu.
- Open the "Privacy & Security" option.
- Go to the "Cookies and Site Data" section, then click on the "Manage Data" button.
- In the search field, enter "krcdn".
- Click on "Remove All Shown," and then "Save Changes."
4. Check that access to the game server is not being blocked by other software, such as a VPN or antivirus program.
Please also check your browser extensions. To do so, switch the browser to Incognito mode before running the game. If the game starts working correctly, turn off the extensions one by one. This way you'll find out which extension is blocking the connection to the server.
5. Make sure that JavaScript is turned on in your browser (to check this, go to this page).
6. Check the speed of your internet connection. An overloaded channel, lots of connections going through your access point, or having other programs open that use the internet can make it impossible to start the game.
7. Make sure that you have the latest version of the drivers for your graphics card installed on your computer. Outdated drivers can cause a range of technical issues. To install the necessary updates, go to the web page of the manufacturer of your graphics card to download the latest version of the drivers.
Plarium Play app
Clear the app's cache. To do so, follow these steps:
- Delete the temporary game files from your computer. These are located at the following file path: C:\Users\Username\AppData\LocalLow\Plarium.
- Clear the cache of the Plarium Play app, which is located at the following file path: C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Plarium\PlariumPlay\Cache.
In addition to these steps, you may also wish to reinstall the game or the Plarium Play app.
Contacting the Support Team
If you've followed all the recommendations described above, but the game still doesn't launch and an error occurs, you need to contact our Support Team.
To help us resolve your issue more quickly, please provide the following information in your message:
1. Tell us that you have already read this article and tried all the recommendations described in it. Otherwise, the Support Team representative will probably suggest that you should do that first. Generally speaking, the recommendations in this article do help resolve the main issues with the game (if your device meets the minimum system requirements and there are no issues on our side).
2. Describe in as much detail as you can what you did before the error appeared.
3. Attach a screenshot of the error.
4. Attach a log of the error (for the web version and Plarium Play only).
- If you use the web version of the game, don't restart the game or browser when an error occurs. Open the developer tools (press F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I in Windows or Command+Option+J in macOS), select the "Console" tab, and right-click anywhere in this tab. In the context menu that appears, select "Save as…". Save the text file and attach it to your message to the Support Team.
- If you play using Plarium Play, the process is fairly similar. If an error appears, don't restart the game or app. Open the settings and click "Show log file." In the folder that opens, find the "log.txt" file using the following path: StandAloneApps\vikings\<a folder with digits in its name>\log.txt. The same folder might contain the "error.log.txt" file. Attach it to your message to the Support Team together with the "log.txt" file.
5. Send us your browser information (if you use the web version of the game). To acquire this, open this page in the browser that you are using to try and launch the game. Copy the generated link and attach it to your message.
6. If you play on a computer, we might also require specific information about the computer itself. This information can be obtained by following these steps:
For Windows:
- Press Win+R.
- In the window that opens, type "dxdiag" and press Enter.
- Click "Save all information" and attach the saved file to your message to the Support Team.
